Forsyth County commissioners tentatively plan to hold a swearing-in ceremony for new commissioners taking their oaths, at the beginning of the 2 p.m. briefing on Thursday, December 22, at the Forsyth County Government Center.
On November 23, the Forsyth County Board of Elections dismissed a protest of Forsyth County election results. The petitioners appealed to the North Carolina State Board of Elections. This appeal delayed the swearing-in of newly elected commissioners, which had been scheduled for December 5. The State Board of Elections denied the appeal on December 8. By law, the petitioners may file an appeal to Wake County Superior Court. Unless such an appeal is filed and Wake County Superior Court issues a stay of certification by December 21, Forsyth County Elections Director Tim Tsujii will issue certificates of election to the newly elected commissioners.
If Wake County Superior Court issues a stay of certification by the December 21 deadline, then the swearing-in will be rescheduled to a later date. On the morning of December 22, the County will confirm if the swearing-in ceremony will take place that day.
Newly elected commissioners Dan Besse and Shai Woodbury are scheduled to be sworn-in, along with re-elected commissioners Don Martin and Tonya McDaniel.
Commissioners' meetings are held on the fifth floor of the Forsyth County Government Center, 201 N. Chestnut Street, and are live streamed on the county’s website, Facebook, YouTube and Vimeo.
