For our On The Same Page main event, the Forsyth County Public Library proudly welcomes Marie Benedict and Victoria Christopher Murray, co-authors of The Personal Librarian. Our On The Same Page celebration will take place from Sept. 22 to Nov. 19, and will feature events, programming, book club discussions and conversations around the book’s themes. This special author talk will be a conversation around the history and legacy of the real-life protagonist Bella da Costa Greene, who became Gilded Age titan J.P. Morgan’s librarian in 1905.
Marie Benedict spent ten years as a lawyer before beginning her journey as an author of books "unearthing the hidden historical stories of women." The Personal Librarian is part of a bibliography that also includes The Other Einstein, the story of Albert Einstein's first wife, The Only Woman in the Room, exploring the technological genius of actor Hedy Lamarr, and Her Hidden Genius, about scientist Rosalind Franklin who identified the structure of DNA but whose contribution was used without permission or credit by the more famous Watson and Crick. Ms. Benedict holds degrees from Boston College and Boston University.
Victoria Christopher Murray holds an MBA from the Stern School of Business at New York University. Alongside a career in the corporate world, she self-published her first novel Temptation, later released by Time Warner in 2000. She is the winner of the Golden Pen Award for Best Inspirational Fiction, the Phyllis Wheatley Trailblazer Award for groundbreaking African American fiction, nine African American Literary Awards, and an NAACP Image Award in Outstanding Literary Work for her novel Stand Your Ground.
The authors will read excerpts from the book, discuss their writing processes, and take questions from the audience. A book signing will follow the program. Join us for this special presentation on Sunday, November 13 at 2 p.m. at the Central Library.
