There are at least eleven farmers markets, including one each in Kernersville and Clemmons, one in King, the Piedmont Triad Farmers Market in Colfax and several in Winston-Salem. There is a market held almost every day of the week somewhere in our area. Additionally, several of the area hospitals and medical facilities host regular farmers markets for their employees and patients. Now is a great time to get out and visit our farmers markets to buy locally grown fresh vegetables and fruits. You’ll be impressed by the variety and quality. Not only will you be able to buy delicious produce, eggs, meats, cheeses, pickles, sauces, baked goods, jams and jellies, but you’ll meet some very friendly farmers who love what they do.
When you shop at the farmers market you are supporting our local small farmers and food entrepreneurs. You can ask the farmer about how the produce you are buying was grown, when it was harvested and even how to use it. There are several markets which accept SNAP/EBT and WIC. For a list of where to find local foods at farmers markets and farms stands visit the Cooperative Extension website at this address: http://www.forsyth.cc/CES/agriculture.aspx or call our office to request a copy.
