The North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services will be certifying scales at the Forsyth Cooperative Extension office, 1450 Fairchild Rd, on Monday, April 1, beginning at 8:30 a.m. for farmers who sell at local farmers’ markets. Those that sell produce and other items by weights must have their scales certified each year.
Scales need to be NTEP approved to be legal for use in North Carolina to comply with laws dictated by the NC Department of Agriculture.
The Measurement Section inspects weighing and measuring devices for accuracy (scales, scanners, motor fuel dispensers, fuel oil meters, and many other devices) and performs inspections of packaged goods to ensure that they contain the stated net contents.
Stop by with your scales. There is no charge for this service. Please attach a sticky note with the county you live in, your name, address and phone number to each scale that you want to have certified.
