The Trailblazers Teen 4-H Club volunteered to sort food for the Winston-Salem Rescue Mission food pantry on February 8. Seventeen members sorted 21 barrels of food which will provide around 4,000 meals. We learned that food insecurity affects 1 out of every 15 people in Forsyth County. The Mission provides about 450,000 meals per year through generous donations, food drives, and volunteers. Submitted by Luke Arrowood - Trailblazers Teen 4-H Club Secretary.
How Can You Help?
Every year North Carolina A&T State University acknowledges Small Farmers from around North Carolina. This year to help celebrate and acknowledge the small farmer, they have decided to host a food drive. Each county that has an NCAT employee was asked to collect canned and non-perishable food items in honor of a small farmer. The food items could be donated to a local community organization or taken to the university to be transported East where a host of family and employees are still trying to recover from the devastation of the storms. In Forsyth County, we have decided to donate to the Second Harvest Food Bank to help combat the food insecurity within our community.
We will be collecting canned food and non-perishable items at N.C.Cooperative Extension, Forsyth Center located at 1450 Fairchild Rd. Winston-Salem, NC 27105 now- until February 28, 2019. Call Monique Pearce-Brady with questions 336-703-2850 or contact her at dmpearc3@ncsu.edu.
