On May 11, 2017, County Manager, J. Dudley Watts presented the FY 2017-2018 Recommended Budget to the Board of County Commissioners. The recommended budget continues to maintain service levels while maximizing efficiency.
The recommended budget includes a tax rate of 72.35 cents. This is a revaluation year where property values are adjusted every four years to ensure that all property bears its fair share of the tax burden. The recommended tax rate of 72.35 cents is the tax rate that would provide the same amount of revenue as the current fiscal year, plus an increase of 2.9 cents to pay for the $430 million bond referendum passed in November 2016. In fact, of the 72.35 cents, 4.51 cents is dedicated to an Education Debt Leveling Plan for bonds passed in 2006 and 0.57 cents is dedicated to the Library Debt Leveling Plan for bonds passed in 2010.
