On May 16, 2013, J. Dudley Watts, Jr., County Manager of Forsyth County presented the FY 20132-2014 Recommended Budget to the Board of County Commissioners. The recommended budget continues the theme of maintaining service levels while maximizing efficiency with as little impact to the citizenry as possible.
The recommended budget includes a tax rate of 74.18 cents which is the revenue neutral tax rate calculated based on the 2013 Revaluation. This rate is 6.78 cents higher than the FY 2012-2013 tax rate of 67.4 cents.
Of the proposed 74.18 cent tax rate, 4.51 cents is dedicated to two Education Debt Leveling Plans. Information about the Education Debt Leveling Plans and how Forsyth County uses North Carolina Education Lottery Funds can be found on the Budget & Management Department’s “Learn About…” page.
Sales Taxes are projected at a 2% increase in overall economic activity for the County and is within the growth projections anticipated by State consensus projections. The following chart provides the statutory calculation for revenue neutral. There was minimal growth between the last revaluation in 2009 and the 2013 revaluation.
