The Betty and Jim Holmes Food Bank Garden was organized in 1998. Based at The Children's Home, its purpose is to provide fresh, nutritious food for food pantries, soup kitchen, kids and seniors programs through Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC. The garden is an all volunteer organization including individuals and groups, with approximately 300 volunteers. Approximately 30 volunteers come on a regular basis and others one time with an organization. The garden practices included cover cropping, composting crop rotation and drip irrigation. We also plant flowers through the fields to attract pollinators.

The garden is one of the significant programs at The Children's Home Farm where a new sustainable farm and garden is evolving.

Volunteers of all ages are invited to participate.
